gemshrines

The seven gemshrines were built by Oerak to honor his god. In general description, they consist of roughly triangular monoliths of some smooth, dark stone about 12 feet high and pocked with thousands of precious stones. Four of the seven shrines have been toppled and picked over by orcs or kobolds.

Ametistshrine
A huge, ancient standing stone is in one corner of this small alcove of off The Trillimac Groves, just by a small dark pool. The stone was once set with thousands of amethysts, but it has been toppled and picked over by the orcs. A branching path to the east leads to oferhald, barricades 8 and 7, and to the Rubinshrine.

A character who has an hour and the tools can extract 1d4 – 1 amethyst fragments (20 gp each) from the stones here.

Rubinshrine
A huge, ancient standing stone still stands in this small cavern. The stone glimmers with the occasional red ruby, but has been picked over by the orcs.
A branching path to the west leads to trillimacgroves and the Ametistshrinem, a passage to the south to barricades 8, and a long winding passage to the east to Turmalinshrine.
30% chance of orcraid. Orc raiders encountered here carry 1d6 fragments, and 3d6 sp.
A character who has an hour and the tools can extract 1d4 + 2 ruby fragments (20 gp each) from the stones here.

Turmalinshrine
In one corner of this cavern, stands a huge, ancient standing stone, covered with gold-orange tourmaline flakes. It shines so that it seems to emit light, which glints off the polished stones of the traderoad which cuts through the room, and leads SW to barricades 9 and NE to an entrance is ringed with traderoad stones and carved dwarven runes that read NOTTMARKATHI * GLAMMESTONE. The main passage curves south to Forge.
A winding path to the west leads to the Rubinshrine. To the southeast, another path branches off the traderaod southwest to Forge.

Because of the proximity to the pechs, the orcs don’t venture this far.

Treasure: A character who has an hour and the tools can extract 2d4 + 3 tourmaline flakes (worth 10 gp each) from the stone here.

Characters might well bump into Fendrick here.

Berylshrine
The Berylshrine is located in the northern corner of Forge, high up in a natural crevice in the wall. It is untouched, and gleams the fierce, bright yellow of a candle flame.

Emraldshrine
This is a small antechamber entered by barricades 3and which leads, through a large tunnel, to The Foaming Mug Cavern. Kobolds have set a Net Trap on the tunnel leading to mug. The standing stone has been toppled and nearly pulverized by Kobold scavenging, but here and there are still chunks of stone and an hour’s search will reveal 1d4+1 chips of emerald worth 10 gp each.
There is a 30% chance of a koboldambush.

Topassshrine
The Topaz shrine is in a large cavern split by bluerill. Near the center, the shrine, which gleams a translucent, pure blue, as if made of water, is slightly picked and chipped by orcs. It stands near a small pool through which the stream runs. Across the pool from the shrine is a smooth footbridge over the stream.
30% chance of orcraid. Orc raiders encountered here carry 1d6 fragments, and 3d6 sp.
A character who has an hour and the tools can extract 1d4 + 3 topaz fragments (10 gp each) from the stones here.

Safirshrine
In the Lake Cavern is Safirshrine and a 200ft wide and deep pool. Emerging from the center is a standing stone covered in brilliant sapphires. Small glimmers of light reflect in the water. The stone is untouched by orcs because a the lake is home to a giantfish, which is generally peaceable but will try to eat any small or medium creature that attempts to swim. Passages lead north to trillimacgroves, east to oferhald and south to Topasshrine.
